1. PRESENTATION OF THE FLAIR LETTER OF INTENT

by E. Widmann to the PAC physics advisory committee. This committee will have its first meeting in April.

1.1 COST ESTIMATE

What to include? Ullrich: give conditional number.

Braeuning-Demian: purpose is that the committee wants to see that the community is strong enough to support the LoI. No running costs.

Building - Braeuning-Demian: Not needed; the cost estimate for SPARC in the Conceptual Design Report was for equipment only.
LSR - there are also costs for having CRYRING in Sweden for a while and for moving it.
USR - Ullrich can provide a cost estimate within 50% within weeks.
Beamlines - ask for a standard estimate
HITRAP - exists

1.2 TIME FOR THE BUILDING TO BE READY

CRYRING expects 2010

2. POSITIONS

3...4 positions for atomic physics should be available when the project starts. Braeuning-Demian and Stoelker will check.

3. AGATA

Can fit in the 6 m x 12 m area in the FLAIR hall for particle physics and medical experiment (no permanent installations). AGATA gets beams from NESR and LSR.Beamline to low-energy-cave of Super-FRS is not an option for AGATA, because it will be a low-energy beamline.Duration of a typical experiment: 1 week ... 3 weeks. Detector will be there for 1/2 year. Comes back maybe after 2 years.

4. TIMESCALES

The Technical Report should describe the rings in all details. Try to have a draft by October.

Yamazaki: operation and maintenance of FLAIR have to be clarified.

5. ANTIDEUTERON IDEAS

Kozuharov: form separate subgroup. Place it in the SPARC proposal.

6. FUNDING SOURCES

Ullrich: will propose the USR to the Max-Planck-Gesellschaft in April.

LSR needs funding for modification, transport, and installation.

GSI R&D proposal for atomic physics to the EU in 2006 -> money in 2007.

D. Grzonka and W. Quint will investigate possibilities to get funding from EU programs.

7. NEXT FLAIR USERS GROUP MEETING

20. September 2004
